SUPPLEMENTALS

There are many components which may supplement the clinical service model. These include the following:

Community services. Facilities for mental health, learning disability and physical disability. The potential to meet the needs of these services, on the same sites, should be considered as part of the overall service model.  In some cases, such provision may be on a mental health facility site.

Public Services. A range of public services can be co-located with the health and care hub to maximise the use of the community space, provide improved accessibility and focus across government and other organisations on policies that will have a positive impact on health and wellbeing. The necessary steps will need to be taken to ensure that community spaces remain politically neutral.

Retail/Commercial. This can include pharmacy, dental, Citizens Advice Bureau, opticians, general retail, pre-school, crèche, private AHP services and private medicine. In engaging with retailers, a restriction may be included to ensure that they do not engage in activities which would be fundamentally against Departmental core principles e.g. sale of tobacco / alcohol.  Careful consideration will need to be given to core guidelines for such co-location taking account of procurement and competition guidelines.  There is also the potential to co-locate with other public bodies.

Residential/housing. Trusts continue to have needs around the provision of both residential care and housing options to support people to live in the community. Targets also remain for the resettlement of individuals from long stay hospital accommodation. Where it is appropriate these needs should also be considered.
